Many students who are in college and will be starting their professional lives soon have no idea how
to dress. Students often ignore the concept of dressing right and how important it is to be presentable
all the time. There are various reasons why students or professionals are not paying attention to their
dressing and personal grooming :-
1. Too busy with their work and personal lives.
2. Short on budget to buy right apparel.
3. Procrastination, unable to mange their time in the morning and end up dressing poorly.
4. They simply dont care.
5. Students feel dressing casual makes them look cool. ( Well think about it again ! )
Well this needs to change and that’s why I’m going to list some rules that you should have known
about dressing right.
1. Show some concern : Being presentable matters a lot because people judge you with what you
wear and how you carry yourself. Wearing crisp, sharp and well fitted clothes encourages other
people to take you more seriously, it makes you more presentable and it also arouses more
confidence because if you dress well people tend to notice and appreciate.
2. Know your audience : You should dress according to your environment. If you are going to a
event that addresses technical people like software developers, engineers, etc. then casual dressing
is accepted but if your going for a presentation or an interview then you should dress formally.
3. Buy the best that is in your budget : Now being student means that you are tight on budget but
theconcept is to buy clothes that are interchangeable i.e. instead of being 3 shirts from a sale that
are of very different colour and design you buy a single classic shirt that you can wear with your
jeans, chinos, shorts and even with your pants.
4. Work on your footwork: Buying a decent and good looking pair of shoes is important. For formal
wear you should buy a good quality of classic leather shoes. Sneakers go really well on casuals.
If you are buying a formal shoes make sure it matches the belt you are wearing.
5. Dont know what formal shirt to buy well white and blue are timeless : White and light blue
cotton dress shirts are the backbone to a sharp wardrobe. Both of these colors make up
approximately 90%of the dress shirts sold worldwide and either color looks good on most
complexions and body types.
6. Replace round neck t-shirts with polo shirts : A good dark coloured and well fitted polo shirt is always more desirable in a social event than a t-shirt.
7. Buy trousers with good fitting : Cotton trousers with navy blue and black colour are best for any social occasion or formal meetings. Make sure you alter the trousers according to your size.
8. Invest in some accessories : Buying a watch, a tie-pin and a pair of reading glasses makes you look more
professional and presentable.
